Sandy Auburn
(Oct. 16, 1956 - Aug. 26, 2016)

Sandy Auburn, after a courageous year and a half battle against cancer succumbed to the disease and passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospice surrounded by family and friends.

Sandy was pre-deceased by her father Courtland Victor Auburn and is survived by her mother Elizabeth (Betty) Auburn, sisters Maureen Bolster, Cathy Auburn and Karen Willson and brother-in-law John Willson and a number of cousins and their families. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Gaelyn, Tom and David Bolster (Dana), Brody and Emily Daft, Courtney, Austin and Brandon Willson and great niece and nephew Jaxon Bolster-Rattray and Presley Bolster. She leaves behind a multitude of friends, near and far away.

Athletics were always a large part of Sandy’s life and she continued to bike and hike with enthusiasm. She was an active member of running clubs, the Prairie Inn Harriers and her beloved Hellions. This latter group of fun loving and caring women were there for her and her family throughout this fight. They will forever miss her ready smile, wonderful sense of humour, gift for storytelling and adventurous spirit.

Special thanks to Fraser Black who offered his love, support and medical advice to Sandy throughout this ordeal. As well, he and “her boys” had shared numerous adventures and they could make her smile right until the end.

Sandy loved to travel and began as a young adult to explore the world. When opportunities arose she journeyed extensively to all parts of Europe, living there at different times and returning frequently to England, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. She spent time in Australia, Southeast Asia and parts of Africa. Many of her dear friends accompanied her on different trips but she also loved the adventure of heading out on her own. Sandy worked in Saudi Arabia and Dubai for several years and from these locations ventured to all sorts of new and exciting places. (We all lived vicariously through her.)

People who knew Sandy were always treated to her entertaining stories and of course her beautiful photographs. She had an eye for the beauty of the world and captured so much of it with her camera.

For her nieces and nephews she was the aunt who would teach them how to make gorilla and monkey faces and sounds, stuff a ridiculous number of marshmallows into their mouths, dance and sing to ABBA, dress up and be silly.

She had an incredible memory for movies and music and on a whim could, and would spontaneously recite famous movie lines or break into whatever song seemed to suit the moment.

Sandy was a dedicated employee of the CRD and her colleagues will certainly miss all that she brought with her each day. They have initiated a memorial page with the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

Sandy touched the lives of many and a celebration of her life will take place at Sand’s Funeral Home in Colwood, on Saturday October, 15th at 11:00 with a reception to follow. Internment will be at Hatley Memorial Gardens with her father, in an area where wisteria and lavender will bloom around her.

Please consider making a memorial donation to
http://donate.bccancerfoundation.com/site/TR/Events/Fuse?pg=fund&fr_id=1340&pxfid=21071&_ga=1.210046549.1502724186.1472229991
